Introduction

 

WA Country Health Service-Midwest is committed to providing accessible quality health care services for our consumers. We aim to make your contact with our services as comfortable and responsive to your needs as we can. This poster outlines the general commitment that we make to you and the rights and responsibilities that you have. Further information is available in greater detail through the links below or by asking your service provider for a copy of the information. There are specific consumer rights and responsibilities in the hospital patient and residential age care settings.

  • As a provider, WACHS Midwest undertakes to:
  • Treat you as an individual; with respect, courteousness and consideration;
  • Act responsibly and with integrity;
  • Be fair, professional and impartial;
  • Resolve any concerns, problems, enquiries or complaints in a timely manner;
  • Provide interpreter services when required;
  • Be responsive to the needs of people with disabilities or special needs;
  • Ensure appropriate access to our services;
  • Continuously train and equip our staff so that we can provide you with quality customer service.

 

As someone receiving services from us, you have the right to:

  • Appropriate, accessible and safe health care based on clinical need;
  • Freedom from discrimination;
  • Information and education about your health care;
  • Informed consent about treatment;
  • Participation in own health care, with the right to refuse at any time, services offered to you;
  • Respect, privacy, confidentiality and dignity;
  • Complain to the Health Service or an independent advocate if you believe you are being treated unfairly or that your privacy and circumstances are not being respected;
  • Appeal against any decision made in regard to fees or service;
  • Appoint an independent advocate, family member or friend to represent you and act on your behalf.

As someone receiving services from us, you have the responsibility to:

  • Work with the staff by providing relevant information about your health and circumstances that may influence the services you receive;
  • Be courteous and respectful of other people receiving services, and to visitors and members of staff;
  • Seek clarification or information to support your consent or decision making;
  • Follow instructions as outlined for the services you have agreed to;
  • Contribute to a safe and comfortable environment.
