If you have ever wondered if health professionals practiced what they preached, here’s proof. For the next eight weeks, 10 teams from health agencies throughout the Midwest will be going head to head in a new web-based healthy lifestyle challenge launched by Diabetes WA. The Get On Track Challenge is a free team-based physical activity and healthy eating program available to all Western Australian adults.
“Health agencies spend a lot of time telling the community that they should be doing more physical activity and eating better, it’s about time that we lead by example and showed the community we can walk the talk”, says Isabel Ross, Health Promotion Officer for WA Country Health Service.
A bit of healthy competition never hurts either. “There is no doubt the Primary Health team, the Prime Movers, will win!”
April Herbert, from the Midwest GP Network, is also keen to be involved.
“Finding the time and motivation to eat healthy and be active is a difficult thing for most people. Joining a team, and competing against others, gives you the support and direction to make healthier changes every day”.
The online program encourages people to team up with 6-8 friends, family members or work colleagues and take a virtual adventure along a Western Australian track, including the Wool Wagon pathway.
Participants are encouraged to do 30 minutes of physical activity and eat two serves of fruit and five serves of vegetables every day.

The Get on Track Challenge is an initiative of Diabetes WA, the Heart Foundation and The Cancer Council WA, and is proudly funded by the Department of Health, Western Australia.
