The final completion of all works at the Geraldton Health Campus is now in sight. It is just over two years since the first earthworks began. Completion of the first phase occurred in August last year when services were transferred to the new building.

Demolition of the old hospital building was completed by December, 2005 and progress to complete the 10% of building works that remained is well underway.

WA Country Health Service Midwest Murchison Director Shane Matthews said that completion of the entire project was on target for July, 2006. That includes completion of the new rehabilitation ward, day rehabilitation area, car parking and all landscaping. 

“Construction of the stores/delivery area is well advanced with handover of this area in the coming month”, he said. 

“The main two storey southern extension has ground and first floor slabs completed and construction of the south east link between the entry foyer and the therapies area has commenced.”

Works at the community health centre have also commenced with completion of an undercover link to the main building, repainting, new carpets and landscaping to the front entrance.

“A key priority is to ensure that the community health building blends in with the overall campus ”, he said.

Mr Matthews said “staff, patients and visitors to the health campus are to be commended for the patience and support they have displayed throughout this redevelopment process.”
